Carnival of Mist

Seedy and depressing like the best of Roadside America, the Carnival of Doom has long been on my radar as the perfect place to get my favorite genre of gothic clothing. I love the destroyed carny look, as if a dust-bowl traveling circus got ravished by vampires. The macabre jokes abound in the sim, which is patterned after the worst of cheesy carnivals, but cheerfully recreated to twang our nostalgia nerve... And, in another twist of nostalgia, it will soon be gone.

The clothing was always perfect. Some of the best designers got gathered together for the show, including Allegory Malaprop and hyasynth Tiramisu. Allegory's Blood Carny gear is some of my favorite inventory items, and I wore them in my first month of blogging oh-so-long ago. Something about the faded fabric, the stripes, the rips, the blood, and the construction were so evocative to my imagination that the style (and the outfit items) have stayed with me ever since. These pictures are a small homage to the place and time, before it fades.

I can see it now...suddenly the owner of the carnival notices that they've been in the same place for too long, and hurries around, mustering his aging clowns and nearly retired barker. Let the carnival live on! Off to another town, say I! ... And maybe, halfway to some exciting destination, they loose their steam and sit again...gathering more dust.
