New moon

rezzables01

My daughter is watching Sailor Moon today, and the moon symbolism made me think about this jewelry set from Crimson Shadow. It's called "Crescent," and the design puts me in mind of the ancient symbolism of the moon. One of the interesting things about gothic culture is that it borders on Pagan and Wiccan cultures. The moon's shape and meaning and connection to female power (and inner tides) makes it a central focus of many rituals...

One in particular caught my attention because it seems pertinent to my occupation. I'm a teacher, and we live by cycles much like the moon. It's coming up to the end of the semester, and this meaning seemed especially nice:

New moon ceremonies have to do with creation, manifestation, birth, and rebirth. The full moon completes the cycle, representing death, change, or tying up loose ends. The full moon symbolizes the end chapter, shedding light on the things that we no longer need to hold on to. (Source)

I'm wearing these moon symbols today to remind myself shed the past and the weariness of the semester, and move on.

Sing the doom song!

Fighting evil by moonlight
Winning love by daylight
Never running from a real fight
She is the one named Achariya Moon!

Sorry, I'm bad. And if you want to get picky-picky, if your'e refering to Paganism as a religion or religious group, it is a proper-noun, along with Wicca. I bring it up because if you're just calling someone a barbarian-pagan, then it's non-proper, and there's also the confusion that Wicca equals witchcraft, but that's like Christianity equals fishing. Yes, Jesus fished, and while it can be wonderful to partake in early Sunday morning, I don't think catching a bass is equivalent to attending mass. Same with Wicca- some followers practice witchcraft, but not all, and not everyone that practices witchcraft is Wiccan.

Yay, banter! :D

Hey Terry!  Thanks for this

Hey Terry!  Thanks for this comment; if anyone else asks, I'll point them to you, since I've done only the most cursory kind of research into this area.

(I never mind admitting when I'm wrong.)  How would you recommend that I revise that sentence? Or is it more the sense of the piece of blogginess that should change?

Doom da-doom doom da-doom doom...

Well, as you're not refering to barbarians in terms of clothing, I'd say just capitalize those terms and perhaps use ther term 'culture' instead of 'subculture'. My stream of thought comes from how the Jewish culture is religiousy based, but it does have it's own staples of customs, including fashion, and while a minority culture in comparison to many, it's not a sub. The Orthodox Jews might be considered a subculture in addition to being a subsect. Paganism, though, is one of those large encompassing terms like Abrahamic (that which is pertaining to the Abrahamic-based traditions, primarily Judaism, Christianity and Islam), so Wicca is not a sub-set of it, even though it is a Pagan religion.

I could probably babble on further, but I think that's all you need right now. XD Feel free to harass me inworld. :3

Thank you kindly, I will make

Thank you kindly, I will make these edits right away and be careful in the future. A nice learning moment for me!

Wait, I'm not done yet! 8D

Hey, no problem! It's how we learn, and I know I'm certainly not offended. I'm just a heretical Christian. :P Anyone that would get offended would probably be a fluffy-bunny Pagan or a badger Pagan of some sort. It's been a while since I looked at the terms, but they're not technical at all. XD
