Interview with a Vampire: An Inside Look into the Crimson Shadow Family

We all know that Crimson Shadow has gorgeous clothing and accessories by some of SL's top designers with a very cool club full of talented DJs. What isn't widely known is the existence of the family of vampires that calls Crimson Shadow home. I sat down with the very enchanting Voshie Paine, the manager of Crimson Shadow and an Elder Vampire of the Crimson Shadow Family, to learn more about the culture of the sim.

And culture there is! I was surprised to learn (although in hindsight, I'm not entirely sure why) that Voshie was a "full-time" vampire. Let me briefly explain what I mean by this. I personally enjoy visiting role play ("rp" for short) sims, usually with a post-apocolyptic theme. Only in SL is prowling around slum-looking sims a good time! When I teleport into an rp sim, I am Adaire the Vampire. When I teleport out, I'm just Adaire (sans bloodsucking!).

Voshie and ThorenVoshie, on the other hand, is always a vampire and has quite an intriguing background. She revealed that she was born in Russia in the late 1700s. Around the age of 16 or 17, as she blossomed into a young village woman, she began to be followed by a pack of vampires. Unaware of it, she carried on her daily life, full of hard work and hard times. One evening, after she had successfully stolen some bread to feed her family and was hurrying home, she was stopped and surrounded by several dark shapes. She doesn't remember much of what happened, but she was unable to be rescued before what vampires call "the change" happened.

What she does remember quite clearly is the pain as her human body died and her vampire self was born. Right afterwards, a Dragon Justicar took her under his wing (for several hundred years, she added) and amongst other things, taught her the value of human life. I was surprised to learn that she, as well as the other Crimson Shadow vampires, have a code to not take blood from a human being without asking and to never kill simply to quench one's thirst.

Voshie and ThorenI couldn't help but notice the attractive Neko boy sitting next to Voshie, and it seemed like a good time to ask about him. Said Neko is Thoren Dagger, a model and her personal blood doll. Blood dolls are the property of vampires and are used for...well, I bet you can deduce why! She's quick to add that he is not part of the family. What I take this to mean is, "Don't touch my Neko!!!" Thoren assures me that he enjoys his role and takes pleasure in giving of himself to his mistress.

But what of the other vampires? The family calls Crimson Shadow home (but they are a separate group from Crimson Shadow staff, so they're not like the Klingons at the Star Trek Experience in Las Vegas and get paid to take pictures with you, lol!) and spend lots of time there socializing and dancing to the DJs that spin every night. Almost a year old, Crimson Shadow is a haven for not only vampires, but other supernaturals, those interested in the alternative/gothic lifestyle, and anyone looking for some fun.

Voshie stated, "We are a VERY close family, and no matter what we are doing or where we are at, we are there for each other. But we enjoy meeting new people and welcoming new additions to our family. There is a sign in the club that can be clicked for more information, but spending time at Crimson Shadow and getting to know us is the best way to join us."

And there you have it. Wander around Crimson Shadow to hear some great music, shop for beautiful clothing, and make some new friends. Check out the events calendar on rezzable.com to find out what is going on when. And say hello to the family if you see them, and perhaps even become a "Beloved." I know that I personally have been seduced by the gothic atmosphere of it and will be a regular on the dance floor. See you there!

I want virtual family too!

I want virtual family too! (Although I guess, maybe the Paradise Lost is still somewhat mine.) Will they adopt me without drinking my blood? ;)

Great article Adiface! I am

Great article Adiface! I am absolutely fascinated with Vampires and how such a dark creature can be so beautiful and romanticized. It's pretty intriguing that there is a Vampire culture in SL, so thanks for shedding some light on it *harharhar*. I'm always scared to go check out Vamp sims since some read in the rules that they will attack. It's nice to know you can go and indulge your curiosity without worrying about becoming dinner, lol. I miss ya hon and hope you're having a blast in Spain!!!! <3333

Lol, Vint - you must ask

Lol, Vint - you must ask Voshie! But from what I understand, all kinds are welcome...even if you are in Greenie mode, I suspect! And thanks Bella!! I was very intrigued to hear about it - I had no idea that there was a whole culture surrounding the Crimson Shadow sim. Spain is FABULOUS but I can't log onto SL from where I am staying, so I am very frustrated. I suppose it forces me to do more shopping and drinking. *grins*

I also play at vampire full

I also play at vampire full time. I am the High Elder of the Dark Malkavian clan, which number about 200 people at this time. We reside on a series of sims called Dementia (the main city sim is called Malka). We role play 24/7 with other factions, allies and enemies using the excellent CCS - a combat system developed in the City of Lost Angel's. Vampire clans exist all over the gird, hehehe, and yes, we do think they are very interesting!

Excellent article Adaire. I

Excellent article Adaire. I always get a real sense of family when I am at Crimson Shadow and you gave me even more insight as to the inner workings. Although I am not part of the Vamp set I hope to spend a long time as part of the Crimson crew. I have enjoyed my time DJing there and doing the Darklands Fashion Show was just AWESOME. I have you to thank for getting me involved here and miss you much. <3

I like how until the last

I like how until the last sentence, G sounded like he had never met you Adaire. So professional! hehehe, sorry, made me chuckle

*grins* Thank you so much

*grins* Thank you so much for the interview Adaire, I had a great time! :D You write so eloquently! I am glad that I had the opportunity to share about my wonderful SL family, who have also become very dear to me IRL, you captured perfectly the feelings of our lil family.

Adaire Excellent interview!

Adaire Excellent interview! Even though I am not in the Crimson family I call Crimson Shadow my home and always have great time there. I hope you are having a blast in Madrid. Can't wait to have more great articles from you.

@Voshie - I'm so glad you

@Voshie - I'm so glad you like how it turned out! I had a blast interviewing you and learning more about the Family. It made Crimson Shadow more of an "experience" kind of sim for me instead of one just to stalk the lucky chair at and listen to Gecko DJ. *grins* And THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU for the FABULOUS pictures! I would have credited you with a caption underneath them if I could have deciphered how to do that! I must convince you to do a profile picture for me - you're amazingly talented! @Bella - He's being less schmoopy for the benefit of the poor readers, lol. He's lucky though, because he has you and the rest of the Cookies to talk to!! I'm so happy you found the article and made a comment or two. It makes me feel less adrift from my SL friends. *hugz* @Anyone reading this - If there is any Rezzable sim you want to learn more about, just drop me a line here or e-mail me at adaire.decuir@gmail.com and I'll get on the case! I will probably wander towards the Carnival of Doom very soon when I can get on SL at a Internet cafe.

Thank you for the lovely

Thank you for the lovely portrayal of our vampire family. My lovely niece Voshie has told you about our loving family in the most eloquent way. I am so proud of her and all the other family members. Voshie has done a wonderful job with the Crimson Shadow Sim's events. They all have the look, feel, and heart of our family values. Please come see what we mean... we don't bite... hard *grins*. ~Contessa Dreams Lightcloud

Awesome article

Awesome article Adaire! Thanks! Crimson Shadow is truly a wonderful place....I don't believe I've had the pleasure of meeting all of my mistress's family...and no, she doesn't share. =~.^=
