This year's "Hair Fair" benefiting Locks of Love is easily turning out to be the talk of the summer. I know personally that the girls of Free*Style have been oohing and ahhing almost non-stop over the incredibly creative styles that are available for purchase. There are also amazingly generous gifts at every vendor. It's a hair hoar's dream! (I think it's less offensive if you write it in lolcats-ese. At least that's the rumor. If anyone is offended by "hoar," please look at some pictures of kyoot kitties doing kyoot stuff and then leave a comment, lol.)
Vint did an amazing job at covering the Hair Fair already, but I wanted to add a few more thoughts, as it's practically impossible to feature even a fraction of what's out there with close to 90 participating designers.
First of all, Locks of Love is a great cause and I'm ecstatic to be able to contribute to it through SL. I think I've attempted to grow my hair out in real life 4 times to be able to donate it to Locks of Love, but I'm incredibly scary-looking with long hair. We're talking troll doll scary. Well maybe it's not that bad, but it's just not my thing! There's been many a time that I've looked jealously across the salon to see a girl having her luscious, long locks cut to be able to donate them. But, by purchasing hair styles marked with the pink sign with "50%" on it, I can contribute financially while picking up a great hairstyle for my avi, and so can you! You can't beat that.
When I popped in at the beginning of the Hair Fair for the pajama party, I ran into Sasy Scarborough, one of the event's coordinators and an all-around great gal who is constantly contributing her time and efforts towards great causes. She had this to say about it: "Hair Fair hopes to raise lots of money for Locks of Love this year, but also hopes to showcase the incredible talent of many hair creators, giving people the opportunity to expand their hair love horizons." Sasy, I assure you - it's working!
I think I've hit about every booth and grabbed an insane amount of demos, snapping up a few of them when I've been able to tp in. One of the Locks of Love hairstyles that was a "must have" for me was Aemilia Case of Philotic Energy's "Delphini." It's original, it makes a statement, and nothing says "haute couture" like having artfully designed hair to go with a knockout dress. I paired her "violet" shade with Draconic for Crimson Shadow's "Siren" skin in the "02" shade. The vibrant purple of the hair makes the blue green of the eyeshadow and lip accent pop.
I asked Aemilia what the Hair Fair meant to her as a hair designer. She told me, "Hair Fair is an amazing experience and wonderful to be a part of. The Hair Fair committee has done so much to pull this together behind the scenes and my deepest thanks go to them for pulling something so huge for a great cause, Locks of Love. The talent out there is insane and its great to see the diversity in styles."
Another Locks of Love style is by Ellie Celt of Eat Rice, and it's one of the most original hairstyle I have ever seen on the grid. Not only is the bob itself adorable, but there's an animated doll that sits on top, gleefully spilling the candy from the candy jar. Nothing goes with candy like a little Poison Candy, so I slipped on this dress and Draconic's Blue Jaguar skin to finish off the look. I suspect you will catch me wearing this a lot, along with Eat Rice's "Birdie" hairstyle. Interactive hair is rad!
Speaking of "interactive," Katat0nik's Ringmaster hair has become another instant fave. Kat is just like many fashionistas that suffer from bloated inventories, which led her to create a menu-driven style that changes several different colors and gives the opportunity to extensively customize the little hat perched on top. She's giving away her "Ghostfire" dress for just $1L at her booth - an extra incentive to check her new styles out!
When I ran into her at her booth as she set it up, she said to me, "It's very exciting to be a part of Hair Fair. I'm a hair noob and somehow I ended up right around the corner from one of the hair greats, Calla! It's amazing to be able to show my work in the same venue as all the famous hair makers of SL!" I can't say I agree with you on the "noob" part, Kat - being able to change my hair color with the click of a button and have only one style instead of an enormous fatpack is AWESOME!
Another famous designer that also blew my socks off was Helyanwe Vindaloo of Deviant Kitties. This style in particular compliments many of the Crimson Shadow dresses that I scored from the generous lucky chair and this just released-released "The Whisper of the Feather" dress by Kuranosuke Kamachi for Crimson Shadow. The bones in the attached hair piece take advantage of SL's "glow" feature and I've been stopped constantly by women wanting to know where I got it.
And we can't forget about the boys! Gecko Gorilla was kind enough to model one of the styles he picked up from Here Comes Trouble (HCT) called "Blaze." Gecko is religious about wearing his Philotic Energy hair, but the Hair Fair gave him the opportunity to check out hair designers he had never seen before. Gecko said, "I figured I would stop by the Hair Fair since every other major event Rezzable has sponsored is phenomenal. What I didn't expect is to find some of the amazing hair styles I did. I have 2 or 3 styles I have worn over my three years in SL and in just a few days I found several more that I can add to my inventory."
Congrats to the Locks of Love Committee for an event well done, and many thanks to the designers who contributed to it to give SL residents some style while they donate to this great cause!
