As part of my ongoing series of posts displaying the work of our 2010 - The Future Is Now creative team, I started this one after having watched the Lady Gaga "Bad Romance" video and had some ideas of making a look along the lines of her style. (That's why I have metres of leg hanging out here!) But after travelling from store to store I gave up on that idea, simply because the audacity and breadth of design available here in SL made me realise that we can be just as interesting and edgy yet true to our own styles without being clones.

Five creators with vastly different styles in this entry, yet with some daring they all fit together quite well. There's no one hero piece of this ensemble, but my starting point was the Gemma's One Woman Army Coat in Snow by LeLutKa. This design team is headed up by Minnu Palen, and I've heard hints that she'll be making a full avatar for the 2010 event - squeee! This coat is a miracle of shading, fabric texture, belts and straps, and features this amazing oversized collar. It comes with several size options, and most importantly you get the a copy of all of them both with and without an AO. It''s something that we are seeing more and more with clothing design in SL these days, and it's welcome because it makes daring designs more easily wearable.
Sissy Pessoa of Baiastice has worked with Rezzable on a few of our events; each item more breathtaking than the show before. From her work I selected the Mirage bodysuit and gloves with the Glitter Culottes, continuing the straps thing that I have goin' on with the coat. I'm especially in love with these gloves; the oversized buckles on the cuffs give them a borderline fetish look. The scalloped cut along the thigh line of the hotpants avoids that awful crotch stretch issue endemic in SL - fix that soon please, guys. And if you could see more of the bodysuit you'd also be able to admire the realistic wrinkles and shading. It doesn't take too many drinks to get me down that far, in case you were wondering.

I've hankered after this Lilith headpiece from Fade Dana of Hat Mechanic for a while, but not really had any idea of what to do with it. It was always on the periphery of my vision under "That's cool. I want it." Now I have the excuse I wanted - well, to be honest, I don't usually wait for an excuse... but this isn't quite the kind of thing you can put on just to get the morning paper. The stitched leather is twisted into horns so I'm guessing it's named after Lilith from the Bible who was a demoness and the first wife of Adam. It's also emblazoned with darkly glowing jewels and you can wear this with or without the crest, the eyepieces and the two veil options you also get. It's a real showstopping item, and even more perfect on those bad hair days.

Travelling down these thighmaster spectaculars I'm stalking in the Phoebus2 boots from Etain Peregrine of Dark Eden. With these I've echoed the buckles theme started with the gloves and coat, and I'm secretly rather delighted at the synchronicity of it all. Etain's store is one of the long running bastions of SL, and have been creating edgy yet sexy clothes for years, and have now branched out into a foray of scripted furniture in collaboration with Stroker Serpentine. I'm especially fond of Dark Eden for reasons that anyone who has figured out whose alt I obviously am will know right away. (No one ever actually reads these so I can say this, right?) These boots feature immaculate workmanship, with every prim perfectly formed. I know this because I accidentally tinted them and it took me forever to undo it bit by bit. They feature a sky high stiletto and - as almost everything Etain makes - are very underpriced for how good they are.

A look this severe demanded a makeup that was clean yet bold, and so I turned to Staged by Dezi Jarvinen. She made the amazing Mother Earth gown for the Swansong event, and I'm really interested to see what she produces this time. But did you know that she also makes skins? This is the Elegant makeup in the Judy line, and I'm especially in love with these lips. The body is so well shaded, and it's a very pretty and versatile face. The way Dezi has developed her skills over these last few skins is wonderful to see, and definately a name to watch.
So I went completely gaga for these items, but not the way I intended. Couple them all up with the terrific Sci-Fi Corridor from Glitterati and I have a blogpost that even I'm not completely unhappy with.Keep watching as I travel merrily throughout the designers list for our 2010 event and see just what they do - and how they are going to blow everyone away on January the 11th.
