Retro Space Princess A-Go-Go

By now you all know that the theme of the next big Rezzable fashion event is "2010 - The Future Is Now" and it's going to be spacey stuff - squeee! I love this idea; especially as I'm a fan of sci-fi, and the more classic the better. As cheesy as Star Wars is now, it has a lasting impact on every generation that watches it. Kids still run around with torches on their belts as light sabres, and apparently Princess Leia's gold bikini is still drooled over by geeks everywhere. And remember, Lost In Space was set in the then far-off year of 1997. So my look today is in tribute to the skimpy retro Space Princess look that you'll find in 70's space movies, and even more modern ones like LeeLoo's bandage costume in The Fifth Element.

My starting point for this outfit was to head to a store that I consider one the great undiscovered gems of SL, Vicarious Lee Wild Things.  Her work isn't just like art, it is art. She has a range of outfits that pay homage to famous artists, taking their creations and intepreting them into high couture. This is something different though, this is the Flapper Dress in white. It's amazing; you get six different wear options with each one and it's available in twenty colours. And it's ridiculously cheap at 185l. I'm wearing the cocktail skirt in most of these pictures, but the one above shows off the ballgown option. Although it's named for a 1920's icon, I definately saw something more futuristic and daring in it's design.

The hair - yes, I know it's all over the feeds at the moment. But there's a good reason for that. It's so good! This is Whoop De Doo by !Lamb and this widow's peak on the bangs enhances almost every skin you could find. Especially this one, it's one of the Diamonds series by Skintight. It's Gaga-riffic, and you get four very different makeups in the pack for 1k. The jewels on this are just painted on, but they are done so well you can see each facet and captured mote of light.

The shoes simply had to be silver knee high boots, there was no other way around it really. I found these at the Shoe Fair, Pauole by R2. A store that's totally new to me, but if everything they make is this cheap and this good then they've converted me. I've tinted the Latex Gloves and Leggings by SN@TCH to match my hair, I love how versatile Ivey's basics are! (And yes, latex is a basic in my inventory, so what of it?) No princess is complete without a tiara, and I dredged my inventory to find this one by Dark Mouse. She made it for the SCD Prom back in May, and I'm glad that my "grab everything just in case" policy paid off. Sometimes it surprises me!

The final few touches to complete my retrolicious are white wrist cuffs from FNKY! and the Feline eyes from Monique Zimmerman. And I couldn't resist the Crystal Cloud from LayGo that every third fashionista has shown off, because it is just that cool. I'm also wearng the Be Careful ring from this same place, when I saw it on the vendor I thought it was big diamonds. I was more delighted to see that it's safety pins all jutting out from a ring!

I had great fun putting this together, but I'm also REALLY looking forward to the new show. Because then there's going to be all kinds of good stuff for me to play with. But if you can't wait until then, you can get a futurefix at Omega Point like I did in these shots. You may want to brush up on your sci-fi photography skills as there will be another one of our great Flickr competitions for sure. I've got my space blaster locked and loaded - have you?
