Walking a mile in another person's shoes

SL is much like playing digital barbies in a lot of ways.  We can buy tons of outfits, shapes, and hair.  We can setup dream houses and fly around in jets.  My inventory is chock full of accessories.  So many shoes, jewels, and outfits that would make a seven year old green with envy.  Even with all that loot, I was fighting the weekend blah.  My friends were uber busy, I had conquered the hair fair lag, been to SL6B, the RL weather was lousy, and there was nothing on the TV.  So in an effort to shake things up, it was time for another experiment: a significant and drastic change.  Enter December Immortal Barbie...I mean avatar.

King Tut Exhibit Round Up

Needless to say, Rezzable is pretty proud of the King Tut sim.  It's a sheer virtual wonder that really captures the essence of the Egyptian dig and the treasures found.  It seems this exhibit has inspired much of the SL blogosphere as well.   Since it's now closed (but you can go visit King Tut Virtual on the Heritage Key Grid), I want to present to you some excerpts, links, photos, and machinma from those of you that posted about the display. Additionally, I wanted to say a GREAT BIG THANK YOU from Rezzable for taking the time to write, photo or film.

"In grand Rezzable style, the experience includes a visit to the afterlife of Tutankhamen, his treasures transformed to giant size amid a constellation of stars and a walkway composed of DNA strands." - Sponsor Partner, Hamlet Au

Happy Birthday Second Life!!

As Second Life turns 6, Linden Labs provides a vast virtual meteor of 20 sims which are both dark and glowy.  Some would say it's an odd setting for an occasion like a birthday party...as it sends the message of both uncertainty with some rays of hope.  However it is pretty indicative of most thoughts regarding this year's theme....the future.

Good Things Come To Those Who Bait

Spring is always a busy time with lots going on so I felt the need to find an activity to clear my head.  Something relaxing but not so much so that I fall asleep like I do laying in my hammock.

" To go fishing is to wash one's soul with pure air, with the rush of the brook, or with the shimmer of the sun on blue water. It brings meekness and inspiration from the decency of nature, charity toward tackle makers, patience toward fish, a mockery of profits and egos, a quieting of hate, a rejoicing that you do not have to decide a darned thing until next week. And it is discipline in the equality of men--for all men are equal before fish." - Herbert Hoover.  Couldn't have said it better myself....just what the doctor ordered.  I donned my wellies and set out to catch me some fishies.

Living the Carny Life

This weekend I heard the call of the midway barker...."Step right up, that's right folks, we're gonna have a show right here!  Come on over for the big show!  Gather 'round!  You've heard everyone talking about it and it's here...the carnival is town!  All live, all right inside the gates!  Come on in....see shows, ride the rides..."  The words reverberated in my head over and over.  Dizzying lights of the rides, the smells of the deep fried food.  All the glitz and all glamor, the travel to new and far away spots...the carefree life of a carny.  I did it....I joined right up.....ready for my SLife on road.

My first stop....wardrobe.  Suited up in a lovely ensemble sure to catch the eye.  Being only really talented with the pen vs the sword, I spent most of the day as a barker.  Shouting out to grab the attention the various passersby.  My voice thundering above the crowds in a manner to get them to pay me mind and see what I was pedaling.

Where do all the cool kids hangout??

On numerous occasions my fellow SLifer posse and I have combed the grid looking for something to do.  However, it always ends about the same....search tool/blog....find event/club.....mostly empty....search tool/blog....find event/club...wash/rinse/repeat.  We invariably would end up at one of the few places we always haunt.  It's curious to me, as I roam the grid, there is rarely anyplace packed besides a few clubs I know that are ALWAYS full.  It led me to ask the question, what do the rest of 70K+ people on the grid do?  I decided to put my mind to the task and find out.

Armed with the SL grid maps, the plan was this:  look for high concentrations of the green dots.  The more the better was the goal.  I dressed casually as I had not a clue to where the adventure would lead me...but I was excited at the opportunity to find new and different spots using a new approach.

Surround yourself in old world style

In the Victorian era, the parlor was the room where homeowners received their guests and entertained.  It was a showcase of wealth and refinement.  Rooms were full of luxurious furnishings and art....the family's best.  Light Waves manages to capture the essence of Victorian living at it's finest in this Victorian Parlor Rezzbox. Walk through the front door with me and a step back in time.

No detail is spared in this throwback to another time.  Light Waves created rich textures that really set the mood.  The wall, ceiling, and furniture coverings are reminisce of the times.  Each piece of furniture is crafted true to the era capturing the appropriate curves and ornateness of their RL counterparts.

Queen for a Day

The mythos and history of ancient Egypt has long been a RL fascination of mine.  In an era of hunters and gatherers, an oasis of art, science, and great riches arose.  While all the world struggled to survive, the Egyptians built a civilization and monuments that we still marvel at today.

Outfitted in my favorite SL exploring ensemble from Last Call(no longer avail), boots from Kitties Lair, and pith helmet from Magi Take, I set out for Kings Rezzable to explore this new virtual environment.

Get Your Freak On

It seems to me, our SL avatars are expressions of our idealized selves.  The person we may have picked to look like had we had the choice.  And we are only limited by the tools and materials we have available in game.  Always wanted to be a redhead?  Hair store, click, buy, wear...red prim hair.  Short in RL?  Appearance, height, slider to right.....mmmm tall.  No more climbing on the kitchen counter to get that glass on the top shelf.

As I travel the grid, 90% of all the avatars I see are tall thin human hardbodies persuasion.  The perfect picture from a fashion mag.  Of the remaining 10% there are the:

Green with Envy

In our boundless environment of SL, we tend to conceptualize our virtual life much in the same manner as our RL one.  Our digitized homes are about home size, our pixelled chairs about chair size.  It's very much life in the eyes of the human animal albeit a bit upsized for those pesky cameras.  Break out of the norm and try a new perspective and get a greenie's eye view with these rezzboxes.

This fun little abode is deliciously retro.  The liner paper reminds me of my gma's kitchen drawers as do most of the contents.   (I'd say my mom's kitchen but the cookbook up top  blew that out of the water).

Greenies Drawer Rezzbox

Sit on some smokes, perch on some pence, and curl up with the condoms.  Makes for a perfect clubhouse or hangout as it's loaded with sits and already has a greenie for a mascot.
