As Second Life turns 6, Linden Labs provides a vast virtual meteor of 20 sims which are both dark and glowy. Some would say it's an odd setting for an occasion like a birthday party...as it sends the message of both uncertainty with some rays of hope. However it is pretty indicative of most thoughts regarding this year's theme....the future.
To no surprise some of the infrastructure was constructed by Tunnel of Light creator Spiral Walcher as you could definitely see some hint of his genius. However, true to form in regards to all things awe inspiring in SL, it's not just the platform but what's been created there by the residents of our virtual world. Creators like Bryn Oh, Malburns Writer, Skills Hax, Peter Stindberg, Jopsy Pendragon, Crap Mariner, AM Radio, Lorin Tone, Prokofy Neva, and so many more.....all staked claims and constructed their individual expressions of the future....be it 5, 10, or 100s of years in the future.

This first pic is of Skills Hax's mini insilico. It's the perfect entry for this year's theme. Skills' full sized Insilico is a futuristic role play sim where it's premise is that of a 24th century city floating over the a flooded Earth. It's dark due to solar panels covering the city and the ozone has been destroyed.

Grace Loudon's piece "Once a Thought" really spoke my language. It first appears more like a look at the past vs a look at the future.....but upon further inspection, the players are controlling it with their minds.

AM Radio's piece is throwback to the days of yore....complete with a storyboard. Per usual AM style, he floors me with both the simplicity and the grand amount of detail of any of his installations. Put this on your must see list!

Don't forget to hit the birthday cake sim and find the presents especially made for this event. My fav is this space ship from Reek! I may well get dizzy watching it orbit my head. :-D Happy Birthday Second Life....and many more to come!!
