5.5 Questions with Harleywood Guru

harley

Welcome to the third installment of the 5.5... *sniff*... I can't believe we've made it this far. I've actually accumulated quite a number of profiles already, and once I master this whole process of 'blogging' (how do you folks do it? sheesh!) I should be able to post more frequently. I'm really excited to introduce you to the people I've met...

Today's victim... er... I mean... resident... is Harleywood Guru- island owner, scripter, builder, dj, hobo and all-around gigantic guy. Harley's approach to SL has always been very open and honest- someone who never loses sight of his "real life" self, even when riding dragons or reproducing Machu Picchu in his backyard.

to quote from his Second Life profile:

'There is no second life and real life, there is just life, and whatever shape and skin we choose to wear or is thrust upon us, does not change the things that matter which are underneath that shape and skin.'

and now, the 5.5

1. Name and SL Birthdate
2. How Did You Hear About Second Life?
3. Favorite SL Pastimes
4. Biggest SL Gripe
5. Most Treasured Object
5.5 Anything Else?

1. Harleywood Guru
9/4/2006 - 4 September 2006

2. TV News Story

3. Building, animating, scripting, type talking with people all over the world, helping newbies get a start.

4. The short list:
The total lack of security (for money or objects inworld).
The lack of scripting language function:
(1) to do things with personal inventory and worldly tasks
(like simply adding someone to a group (and yes I have the hodgepodge work arounds to get close)
(2) to do data visualization tasks.
The poor way that sculpties were implemented (pretty stairs that can't be walked on)

5. My Frank Lloyd Wright telehub made by a friend for me (one of a kind).

5.5 I am not a good interviewee. I am quite down on SL and do not see the rainbow on the horizon as some do. I see a company simply interested in making the most money for the least investment. A good capitalist value scheme. A lousy consumer happiness scheme. I have never hid anything about who I am in real life from second life. I have no problem giving out My name, address, phone number and website URL. I am the same in second life as I am in first life. I only have one life. I enjoy some aspects of second life, but the frustration with tools that simply don't work and nothing on the horizon make it a less than time worthy pursuit in life, at least for me.

Your still the best there is

Your still the best there is in SL and RL. Though times and events have changed, it is till fun and yes SL has major problems (like hiring marketing agents instead of real programmers). Love yas.

This is a funny one,

This is a funny one, Scotsgraymouser. Most people would state that Linden Lab is not hiring real marketing agents either! ;)
