Above: bikini party. Now Linden is the wet towel that will determine what is porno and what is good old fashion sexy fun.
Linden Lab is embarking down the water slide of censorship with their ghetto-ization of porno, narco and ultra-violence content. I am amused that this is called "adult content"--maybe better to call it something more accurate like "twisted crap you are embarassed to be seen doing content. In their words: "The Adult designation applies to Second Life® Regions that host conduct or display content that is sexually explicit or intensely violent, or depicts illicit drug use." More spew info on their support center here.
Freedom of speech/expression is was a main feature for the SL grid. Now people like Jack Linden will be moving parcels and regions into the porn grid. So who are the people at Linden Lab and what is their new agenda about what is "twisted crap that you should be embarrassed to be seen doing?" They offer this: "some content is clearly more conventionally "adult" than other content." Bah--the grey area is much larger than the black area on this topic.
And they are only talking about the Region content--what about avatars? Are they going to get more serious about banning avatars that are dressed like "Adults?"
This feels a lot like urban planning and zoning. I suppose there will be a licencing board soon and some paperwork needed to file before you can sell sculptie willies. And Linden Lab has been so open, publishing data regularly and treats all the region owners the same, so I am sure this will be managed really well.
As Linden Lab states: " Yes. Numerous Residents, ranging from adult-content vendors to educators, have requested that we provide additional tools to enable them to tailor their inworld experiences and make them more predictable." And maybe the TP's will run on-time also.
