Tutorial: Creating Static Poses for Second Life Using Qavimator

Welcome back! I'm sure some of you remember my Avimator tutorial which I used to teach you how to create your own poses in Second Life. I'd like to take this opportunity to teach you how to use Qavimator,... basically, Avimator's "big brother". It is slightly more user friendly and much more fuller featured than its Avimator counterpart, and as a bonus, can also be used to create simple animations!

What You'll Need For This Tutorial:

1. Qavimator, downloaded and installed (WIN / MAC)

2. Second Life

3. About 10 minutes. ;)

Important Steps to Remember:

1. For static poses, you will always, always, *always* be using only 2 frames. Don't forget to change your FPS from 30 to 2!

2. Always start creating your pose on the SECOND keyframe (the last one). The first frame of your pose must ALWAYS be the static avatar "T" pose.

3. Don't forget to move each bit of your avatar at least 1 or -1 movement point. This will ensure that your pose will lock in place when it is played in world.

4. Always save your file with the *.BVH filename extension at the end (i.e. animation.bvh).

5. The center point of your avatar when posing is the PELVIS. When creating poses that cause bends at the waist or the need to be sitting, ALWAYS start your pose by centering and posing your avatar's pelvis first.
