2010 - How Do Your Shards Grow?

Last I reported, I left with the sorrowful prospect of sentience thrown away. But with the dark, there is light, and with a negative outlook of the future, there is an optimistic one awaiting. As current issues ask what we throw away, they also pose the question, "What will we grow in the future?"

For over half a decade, technology has propelled agriculture to places our ancestors never thought possible- acres upon acres of crops, food grown throughout the year, produce that last longer and so forth. Today, however, we are questioning the means to the end, with chemicals and Frankenstein DNA being reevaluated by scientists and consumers. Simultaneously, farmers and architects are looking at how they can structure crops to grow in an efficient, yet natural manner. This is not the only area concerning the necessity of life- in the field of medicine, doctors and researchers are exploring the possibilities and wonder provided by the embryo and other organic building blocks.

These are three unique subjects of study that may cross in the future. We already hybridize the food we eat- will we cross flora and fauna? And will this occur at the hands of elite professionals, or perhaps as a consequence of unstable material mingling with the environment? The otherworldly fae I ran into at Chakryn would not mention her origin (in fact, she simply flew about and giggled with my observations). She was clad in elegant white linens that flowed about her form like a drooping ivy bloom, while small ivory vines curled about her form; and atop her head, an array of crystals glowed amongst her snowy up-do and one silver rose shyly smiled at onlookers. The pure hue drew out her dandelion skin and its floral markings, giving her the aura of a daisy floating casually on the breeze of time.
