Holiday Trends 2009

The cold is nipping at noses in the northern hemisphere while warm breezes flirt in the south, and all around the globe, people are swept up in the season of celebration. And with them, their wardrobes. The virtual world is no exception, and three themes have particularly stood out this holiday-

Antlers
If you were thinking that red, green, and snowflakes top the charts, you've earned yourself a lump of coal. While these are seasonal favorites, the fashion community is not one to only stick to classics year in and year out. A great example of this is the prominent use of horns within the last weeks: big or small, decorated or bare, these accessories are crowning heads with each of their own unique flairs. Shown here are one of this year's popular pair (the Winterhorns from Stitch by Stitch), an original rack released last year (Schadenfreude's Skull Ornament Antlers), and a legendary limited edition set (the Odocoleinae Lumina Antlers by Illusions). Other names offering these personal toppers are Callie Cline, Gritty Kitty, House of Ruin, Scribble, and Sugarcube.

Lights
Not just for buildings and lawns anymore! Twinkling bulbs in a variety of color schemes have been entangling themselves in hair, jewelry, and around complete avatars throughout the feeds. As can be seen, creators are playing with different sizes and shapes to present their own interpretation of this holiday mainstay. Featured here is one of Magika's Christmas special hairs, two of EarthStones's latest holiday releases, Eolande's Peace on Earth Hunt contribution, and a full-body string set from Gritty Kitty. Burning Chrome, Calico Ingmann Creations, Deviant Kitties, and Hoorenbeek are a few of the additional stores dabbling with lights.

Sugarred Sweets
Wrapping up the three big trends this season are confectionery-themed articles. Candycanes, gingerbread, cookies and more have been sweetening up clothes, accessories and decor across the grid. And why not? I know in real life I've been putting as much sugar as I can get my hands on into my mouth; I can only imagine what designers are up to.
