Shakespeare and the Tempest

Not many real villages can boast of amenities like Shakespeare. Fort Worth sometimes has Shakespeare in the Park on summer nights. But you can’t call Fort Worth a village—unless you are in Dallas. Here in Second Life, we have our local actors. They do plays by local writers sometimes. And plays by famous writers at other times. They seem to be on a Shakespeare binge right now. (That happens to actors.)

Last summer, they did "A Midsummer Night’s Dream." Now they are getting ready to do "The Tempest." The SL production makes use of animations, effects and live SL Voice. Set designer JubJub forder calls the visual style of the production "pre-apocolyptic post-victorian furry steampunk." I don’t know what all that means. You might learn something by a google on "steampunk." But the best way to find out is to come to one of the performances.

All performances will be at Garden World sim, hosted by JubJub Forder. Seating is limited and tickets are L$500 (about $2 USD) and include a goody bag of steampunk free gifts worth L$1000. (Click on the poster at right to enlarge it.)

Ada Radius, Ariel in the production, calls The Tempest "The perfect Valentine's Day date! Be prepared for a storm. Dragons, Furries and Tinies welcome! There is space for particularly large dragons in the water on either side of the regular audience seating."

A date! Think of the advantages. Virtual limousine. Virtual evening clothes. A private, live showing of Shakespeare. A live conversation with the actors. Impress her with your theatrical contacts! This might work even it if it not on Valentine’s day.

Thinkerer Studios has bought up a block of 50 tickets to be free for the SecondLife Hobos (first come, first served). There are still tickets available. There is still time, if you are not yet in Second Life, to enter with a free membership and catch a performance. For more info inworld, contact Ada Radius or Thinkerer Melville.
