Rezzable & Language Lab have come together to celebrate cultural diversity in SL by holding a Global Music Festival for the month of September. Throughout the festival, September 6-28th, Rezzable is sponsoring the 'Captured Proverbs' Second Life Photography Contest. This is not your typical photo contest; it is a celebration of the RL diversity that helps make SL special. This is your chance to showcase your Real Life Culture by taking the best photo in SL that represents something typical to your home country & culture: it's proverbs. Prizes are abundant, with 30,000L$ and lots of in world goodies for the first prize winner.
What is a 'proverb'?
A proverb is a short, generally known sentence of the folk which contains wisdom, truth, morals, and traditional views in a metaphorical, fixed and memorizable form and which is handed down from generation to generation. Proverbs are often borrowed from similar languages and cultures, and sometimes come down to the present through more than one language.
Your Photography Mission
Choose a proverb in your own native language (English, Redneck, Dutch, Japanese, Mandarin, ... ) and depict that proverb in your photograph.
A very clear example would be 'it's raining cats and dogs', where you can have prim cats & dogs falling out of the sky. And a cute umbrella! The example here shows 'De kat de bel aanbinden', a Dutch proverb that can be translated English as 'To bell the cat'.
Submission of entries
Starting September 3th, the flickr group "Captured Proverbs in SL" will open and you can start submitting your photos to the group. The contest ends on Sept 28th, with the winners being announced on October 8th. You will need to submit your participating photographs to the 'Captured Proverbs (SL)' Flickr group before September 28th. You can submit a maximum of 3 entries.
Each entry should be tagged 'rezzable' and 'global music festival'.
In the description of your photograph list:
- The proverb in it's original language. Also state which language that is and where it is used. (eg. Door het bos de bomen niet meer zien. - Dutch/Nederlands - Belgium & The Netherlands)
- An attempt at English translation of the proverb. Not all proverbs have an English translation, then a literal will surely do. (eg. Litterally translated: 'One can not see the trees any more because there is to much forrest in the way.' and this means that the overload of stuff is so big, one misses the important details. Mostly used when one is loaded with work and sees not were to begin and no end to it.')
- Your SL avatar name. (Especially for those who pick flickr nicks that differ from their avatar names! ;))
The group is moderated, so your photograph will not appear instantly. If for any reason we decline it from participating in the contest, we let you know in the comments.
Rules
- Submission will start on September 6th and ends on September 28th.
- Tag each photograph with 'rezzable' and 'global music festival' and submit to the 'Captured Proverbs'' Flickr Group.
- Each participating avatar can submit up to 3 photos.
- Photos are preferably high-res and can not be smaller than 512x512 pixels. Aspect ratio does not matter.
- Post-processing is allowed, but no excessive brush use or artificial borders. This is about using Second Life to depict a proverb, not your brush collection.
- A small signature on the photograph is allowed.
- We trust you to showcase some general sence and goot taste. Nipples and related items are allowed, goatse.sx stuff will not be accepted.
- Photographs need to have all required info (see submission of photographs) in the description fields, else your entry will not be accepted.
Legalese: Rezzable & Language Lab have the right to use the participating photographs for promotional purposes (advertisiment, display on the websites, ...) but will do their utter best to always credit the photographer avie. We shall never sell the photographs without prior asking permission from you, and of course, you retain the rights to your photograph as the creator.
Teen Grid Residents: Those can play but can't win anything. Grid-logistics don't allow us to ship virtual goodies or L$ your way. But still, we're curious to behold something created on the teen grid!
