The 3rd annual Hair Fair - running August 22 until September 7th, and this year based on an Aztec theme - has already reached a donation total of L$1013008. That's an estimate US$3,567.71. But of course, they are still willing to accept your L$ for the good cause! ;) There are almost 90 participants, spreaded across 4 sims. The Hair Fair is sponsored by Rezzable, who have donated the islands for this charity event. Hair Fair donates proceeds to Locks of Love, an organization that donates wigs to children who suffer hair loss due to cancer, burns, and other conditions. This year, all designers at the fair will donate 50% of one hair style to the charity. And of course, you can just donate without getting virtual hair in return on location too.
Hair Fair Activities
Of course, the organisation is as nice to not take your money and offer you 'just' prim hair in return. Together with the Hair Fair there are a lot of activities for your entertaining pleasures:
Hair Fair Quizzes
Serendipity Nerd and Windy Crawford of the Events team have been hard at it to provide events for the Hair Fair and one of those is in Quiz form on the Hair Fair blog and its a way for everyone to go and visit everyones stores to find the answers, and have fun in the mean while. Of course, nobody stops you from teaming up for this! With questions like ' I can see Alaska from Virginia… Whair am I?' and 'Across checkered floors in the back you will meet Sweet Rosie O’Grady & a Kitten with a Whip. Whair am I?' they guide you to all the participating designer's stores. The complete quiz, rules & prizes can be found on the hair fair blog. Every two days you'll have a new quiz to play!
Bandana Day 2008, don't forget!
Bandana Day 2008 is held on the last day of Hair Fair , September 7th, an all day event covering the whole grid, where we all replace our hair for the day, wherever we may be , and wear a Bandana sold during Hair Fair at various locations around the 4 sim. All money raised from the sales of the Bandanas will go to Locks of Love.
The children that benefit from this event are bald in real life for a lot longer than a just day, and the money raised by Hair Fair and this event will go towards helping them be provided with wigs in RL, a worthy cause. Compared to what these children experience on daily basis, we consider being virtually bald for just a day - or even a few hours - is not much asked from an avatar, but a giant statement for those kids.
Move around Hair Fair like the kewl kids do
This extremely original way of transportation - or moving at all - and solution for shopping at laggy sims - or Hair Fairs - was first reported by Xiamara, sources do not confirm who started this new transportation rage:
'I am not sure who came up with this solution, but it is nothing less than brilliant! Walking and flying are pretty much out of the question due to the lag. In fact, it is like trying to walk against a 10 force gale. The Rezzable sims where the Hair Fair is being held this year must be giving not only rezzing, but also building permissions. When I saw other avatars fliitng around on little cubes, I immediately followed their example. And there were even some longer boxes with 2 or 3 avatars perched on top of them. Tandem boxes, if you will. It works beautifully! Just keep your edit palette open and move yourself along by using the arrows. Even across really wide areas…'
Hair Fair Challenge by Achariya
Achariya Rezak wants to know how equisite you ladies, and gents, can still look without all those high-prim attachments. So in honour of the hair fair, for one quick photograph, throw all your attachments overboard and show us your real you. (Keep your mesh covered with skins still, though! ;)) Miss Achariya says: In honor of hair fair, I challenge you all to put together your lowest-prim looks. How cool can you look with no attachments at all?! Inquiring Gollums wanna know. *Gollum, gollum.* Laqroki Pedi already created a stunning attachmentless look.
Hair Fair Possible Purchases
Where is my fav designer located at Hair Fair?
Teagan Blackthorne put a lot of time into this one, for your shopping easy. A list of your favourite hair designers and their inworld locations on the hair fair sims in SLURL format. Go and click some! There are also demo's available for most of the participating designers on OnRez. Yes, that many demo's & that many interesting folks that they crashed OnRez for a while. But all up now, and if you want to decently prepare for in-world shopping, this is the place to go.
Shopping Tips
Although there are a lot of discussions about what keeps client & sim lag low, you might want to keep in mind to not overdo it on wearing the heavily textured, flexy prim attachments with round forms. Cube heads are still fashionable! ;) For the items itself: Washu Zebrastripe - who apparently invented the prim hair! - created a beautiful red, short hairstyle in honour of Codebastard Redgrave. Take a look! Calico Ingmann creations, has a lovely male hair style named Xander, which I'm sure will work for girls too. I'm temped to make my avatar a bit more androgyn and test if my assumption is correct. Or what do you think of virtual hair designs by Selena Gateaux or Dernier Cri?
