Frequently as aspiring artists, we are required to obtain liscencing for use of other materials in our works. Often when you are just starting out, you do not have the money needed to obtain these liscences which can become a hinderance, or other, dubious ways are explored in order to go around these restrictions.
We would like to present a contest where it is in support of aspiring machinima makers to find ambient music that will fit their themes without gray legal areas, or exorbitant prices. A public domain song has been chosen, with which you are to create a machinima around it. Once your work has been created, you will embed it in the post, for your chance to win 15,000L.
A breakdown of the contest:
Music: St. Louis Blues by William Christopher Handy, written in 1914
Task: Create a machinima that fits the mood given while using a royalty free version of the song in your machinima
How to enter: Embed your machinima into the comments
Prizes: 1st place winner will receive 15,000L
2nd place 10,000L
3rd place 5,000L
Rules:
1. Make sure you have all rights to the machinima
2. Must use the song provided

Royalty Free Music
Mon, 04/13/2009 - 22:14 — Pyewacket BellmanThe song is public domain, meaning the composer no longer gets paid - but there are no public domain RECORDINGS in the US, so you have to either record your own, find someone who recorded one and didn't release it on a label - or license a recording.
Royalty free in the US just means that the artists who recorded the song don't get paid.

As an organisation that supports machinima and has co-operated in some fine offerings, it is a little disheartening that there's been no movement on this, particularly taking into account the time taken by the entrants to make entries.
As you know making machinima is not a fast process, and involves many hours of work shooting and many more hours in post production. We have given our time, please dignify our entries with a result.

We didnt have many machinima entries but all three that we had I have very much enjoyed all of them
