2010 - The Game of the Courtisane and The Unknown Century by Violator

Just in case the last few weeks wasn't an absolute giveaway...  I'm mad about the more exotic and innovative fashion that's possible in Second Life.  The thing is - gravity is no issue, and physics can be told to take a flying leap. Gowns can be created from silk and organza or they could be spun from light, cobwebs and zephyrs. Some designers simply GET this, and Soraya Vaher and Minx Glaz of Violator are amongst the best of those who do.

Some eldritch trail led me to their store just a few days before the Swansong event started in July.
I was kicking myself that I hadn't been there earlier, as the swan motif is a recurring one in Soraya's designs. She wandered through her store when I was there, I pinned her down and fanboi'd all over her and made her promise to work with us one day. And these magnificent creations are the result of that, the Violator submissions to "2010 - The Future Is Now" at Greenies sim. The femme item is The Game Of The Courtisane, and the homme The Unknown Century. They are very obviously companion pieces, and seen together on the runway drew amazed gasps from the audience. But I've also been wearing Century out and about and it loses none of it's impact in an everyday setting. I dropped into a showcase sim to take photos and the stunned comments started as soon as I rezzed. I think I handed out a dozen landmarks before fleeing for a quieter place to shoot.

They both feature these extravagant spikes, whorled curlicues of metal aggressively thrusting out from the av. I dragged my friend Ersatz Charisma out of some seedy bar and forced her to model with me. (She got her revenge - she made me pose all afternoon in the Fallen Gods skin post that you'll see within a couple of days.) She's also wearing the [KA] Bardot skin bty Kira Ahn, another wonderful show item. Everything in The Game is an attachment, all formed from either sculptys or prims with this same platinum texture. You can see that as spikedy as Courtisane is, it still has a softness - shown mostly in the drapery that falls to the side of the hip, and the curl of the hair that drops teasingly across the face. This is available as a full set including the hair and the shoes, and those two items are also available separately if you only want a taste of this Courtisane's game.

The male version The Unknown Century is even more dangerous. Everything you see on Ersatz is taken and exaggerated here, a menace that still manages to be stylish. Whilst the Courtisane is completely prim pieces, this version has clothing layers that are slashed in varying shades of translucency across the body. They make up the base of the ensemble, and they look really good all on their own I've found. Then there's the shoulder cape that manages to fall between the spines of the armour, somehow Soraya and Minx managed to make metal fluid and wearable. One of my favourite details about this is that as outré as it is, it still has a very respectable necktie. So it's perfect for corporate raiders, perhaps.

These spectacular creations - and a whole lot more besides - are currently available purely at Greenies sim. The 2010 extravaganza winds down on the 3rd of February, and it seems that a few of the items for sale are going to be event exclusives only. So if you like the look of the things we've shown you over the last few weeks then don't hesitate much longer. Because whilst the Future Is Now it isn't always going to be. After next week the Future will be in the past, and it won't ever come again. And I don't see another Future in the future.

Oh god, someone get me Stephen Hawkings on the phone, please.
