Heritage Key Update: Less Lag, More Magic

Heritage Key Tut: in the tomb Viv Trafalgar wanted to give me a sneak peek at some of the new content coming for Heritage Key. I'd cast some doubt last fall on how well it worked for my class. So now I'll begin a few dispatches on what we found, on my return visit. This post focuses on the Tomb of Tut. I'll turn soon in another post to the orientation experience for Heritage Key.

I'm pleased that on almost all fronts that worried me, Rezzable's team has made some dramatic improvements to the areas I'd ticked off: lag, navigation, avatar customization, and stability.

The banks of the Nile

amarna01

Cool whitewashed brick lay beneath my bare feet, and there was a smooth high roof above, keeping the house cool against the hot Egyptian sun. The houses of Amarna are mansion-esque in size, situated parallel to the wide sweep of the Nile to take advantage of the cooling winds. Passing through death and the spoils of life we've touched ground, the nebula sending us into a new life, a new incarnation on the life-giving banks of the Nile. This is my final stop on my journey through Ancient Egypt

History Repeats

This Wednesday the 13th of May come and rock the Pharoahs at the King Tut sim, as we celebrate it's grand re-opening with a party that's guaranteed to go OFF. We have the delicious Mourna Biziou of Radio Free Darkmere spinning the most intriguing tunes you'll catch all year. (And  to my horror I've realised I've mispelt her name for this poster - AGGHHH,  FORGIVE ME PLEASE MOURNA!) and lovely models displaying the Egyptian creations that the talented Digital Alchemy designers created for this sim.

The Mask of the King

antechamber01

After wandering about the excavation site I found myself in a portal of sorts in the Rezzables King Tutankhamun exhibit. This chamber houses the enormous golden funerary shrines of the king. The chamber is vaguely octagonal, with three walls leading to displays of artifacts, and the cornerwise walls acting as portals to other locations in the exhibition. It put me in mind of the book The Magician's Nephew, especially the world between worlds where hopping into magical pools could transport you to different planets...

Queen for a Day

The mythos and history of ancient Egypt has long been a RL fascination of mine.  In an era of hunters and gatherers, an oasis of art, science, and great riches arose.  While all the world struggled to survive, the Egyptians built a civilization and monuments that we still marvel at today.

Outfitted in my favorite SL exploring ensemble from Last Call(no longer avail), boots from Kitties Lair, and pith helmet from Magi Take, I set out for Kings Rezzable to explore this new virtual environment.

Runway Magazine nightmare !

Runway Magazine creating a feed through our blogs then get published again in other feeds.  Like we needed that spam. In their blog no contact information is given so that  I can contact them to be taken out of that feed. Also they say that the blog is no longer monitored. Fashion World of SL is one of the only places I turn to catch up with fashion news daily but I hate to see that people try to spam it without the consent of others.  Please do take the Rezzable website from your feed. I guess if this doesnt work we will need to complain to Wordpress.

Swift wings...

"Death shall come on swift wings to him who disturbs the peace of the King...

After my last post, the next stage in my journey through Rezzables' King Tut exhibit took me to Egypt at the time of the tomb's discovery. The landing point outside of the tomb is strewn with the tools of Howard Carter's archaeological dig, right at the moment of his breakthrough into the main part of the tomb in 1922. The moment is frozen, eerie, captured in time. I clicked on the audio tour and listened to Carter's life, feeling prickles along my arms as I learned of the strange curse that beset the discoverers of the tomb...

Winner selected for "Call of the Nile"

The winner has been chosen!

After having an amazing turnout with great submissions for the "Call of the Nile" flickr photo contest, we have finally selected a winner.  It was a very difficult choice as there were many stunning photos, but we finally narrowed it down to one winner, who we felt best represented the idea of "Call of the Nile".  Without further ado, I present Kynne Llewellyn!  Her submission was clean and simple, while conveying the beauty of Egypt.
