Entertainment: Second Life Out of the Box

Like I told ya before

Inworld-outworld party at my retirement community

Open to the public.

Where In Second Life inworld   Brigadoon theater,  hovering above the line between Cookie and ThInkerer Quests, providing a 2-sim venue.  Like Brigadoon, this theater only emerges from the mists in response to theatrical need.  At other times it remains in two holodecks.

Theater Credits:

  • Jubjub  Forder, designer and builder
  • Cheshyr Pontchartrain, Horizons Holodeck

Where in the outworld:   Franklin Park at Cityview,  Fort Worth, Texas
In the Activity Room.   Refreshments served by Cholly Gordon, Activity Director here.

From My Virtual Place to My Physical Space

All it takes is a big TV screen to bring your Second Life party into your living room.  At least that is what I claimed a while back: Real Entertainment from the Virtual Village

And Eva Moon Ember did something like that with the release of her new CD:  Eva Moon Goes Blended World

And here are some more of my outrageous claims: Scenarios for a Killer Ap

Thinkerer Theater, Coookie

Now I am going to try out this idea in the retirement community where I live.

When: Sunday, Oct. 25.  12:30 to 3 pm California time.

Linden Labs Offers Solution Providers

Crap Mariner called to public attention that Linden Labs sent a form letter to Eshi Otawara rejecting her application to become a solution provider.  That set me thinking about solution providers.   I remember when I first heard about the Linden Labs Solution Providers.

I couldn't believe it!

Linden Labs had solutions?  Why weren't they using them?  Well, it turned out that the solutions were not for Linden Lab's problems.  (You noticed?)  The solutions were for business clients of Linden Labs.  Acually, they weren't really solutions anyway.  They were just business services, like consulting.  Being a retired consultant myself, I began to think what would happen if consultants were to turn their attention to the problem that we just noticed at Linden Lab

If you build it, they will copy it

The recent unpleasantness about Builder Bot leads me to speculate about the effect of upcoming technical developments on the issue of copying in virtual reality.  OnLive, an impending development that I have been discussing in recent months, may have some implications in this matter.

My article, VR in the Cloud, gives a summary of the discussion and links to previous articles.

Overview of how OnLive will work

Connect to OnLive with your TV, PC or Mac and start a game.   The software and hardware you currently have on your powerful gaming computer will be running on a server farm somewhere.  Those are viewer servers, as distinguished from sim servers:

Sim server:  Virtual machine run by a grid operator such as Second Life or Rezzables.  Each server is associated with  a specific region on the grid.

Musician’s Entry Path to Second Life

Now you are in.  What do you do next?  Here one place to start.  Trax.   “A place for venue owners, agents, musicians (old & new), and everyone else to learn, listen, book and buy Live Music in SL.”

The place is run by Bones Writer, a composer and perfomer himself.  This week I will just give you an overview of what is offered at Trax (listening booths and bundled services).    Next week, I expect to have an interview with Bones himself.

Orange Island

Orange Island is a place where we want to share and collaborate with the Second Life community, offering a range of events that not only give opportunities to discuss and explore new ideas and technologies but provide some fun experiences too.

We believe by working together we can do more, so by understanding and exploring new opportunities such as those we recognize within Second Life we can start to consider the tools and services we might be able to offer to support community projects as well as how communities in Second life may be able to help us.

Future of SL Beyond e-tech (continued)

Our previous episode described a new player the table, Onlive.  Onlive offers the prospect of a major change in the infrastructure used to deliver online games and the virtual reality that they live in.    This episode examines the prospects for this change and some of the futures it may offer.

Eva Moon Goes Blended World

Eva Moon has already gone for blended reality.  She has been performing in Second Life for over a year.  And she has been performing frequently for Thinkerer Studios projects ever since she arrived.  One of her earliest gigs was on Saturdays Wild, at the Forum.  At right is a picture of her performance at the Archon Theater on Cookie.  Eva Moon performsa at the Archon Theater on Cookie

Eva has earned enough (according to her press release) to finance a new CD, “Moon Falling Down."  So she and her real life band, the Lunatics, will blend worlds in a simultaneous physical and virtual world release concert for their new CD.  Eva Moon (EvaMoon Ember in SL) is known for her hot music and hilariously sexy, no-holds barred lyrics.  In this release concert, her band will be in both worlds.
