Shall we call creative activity play?

I come to that question from a blog post, Playing with Pixels, by Jaen Wirefly.   (Of course, I got that post through the services of my Google Reader.)

And the phrase reminds me of a comment by the well-known Second Life artist, Juria Yoshikawa, about his experience in coming into Second Life.

“…I started to rediscover the sense of play…”

Voices from the Virtual Village

Why would you need the metaverse to produce audio content?  You don’t.  You don’t need a computer to produce written content, either.
With a little tech skill, you can start your own podcast and put out a show every day if you want to,  But there are some benefits to working in the Virtual Village (for example, in Cookie).

Playreading Workshops join Writers and Actors

What are writers and actors doing in Second Life?

Well, writing and acting.   We have a thriving theater community in Second Life.  Various groups in the community have produced several plays in recent months.  Some of these, like the Tempest  and A Midsummer Night’s Dream were available without royalties.    But modern plays would cost more money than we can afford.

So when we started the theater community, we also started a play-writing community.  And that has been growing, too.  Last fall the Avatar Repertory Theater people produced three Halloween plays, “Tales from the Metaverse.”   These were written in Second Life by a few people from the Inksters (a major writing group in Second Life).   One, “Jim Comes to Tea,” is available on video .  The others will be available in the future.
