Dandelion Wine

The other night I went to the Greenie's dance and frolicked with a teal-green tentacle-monster. As we danced, I looked around the crowd and pondered how we all envisioned the concept "futuristic." Everyone looked sexy; that was my first thought. This is Second Life, however, and avatars have to TRY to not be. Sexy aside, I saw a lot of new ideas about shape and structure and fabric. In the future, fabric doesn't have to be cloth, and clothing doesn't have to cover the epidermis; sometimes it's embedded within, sometimes it takes the physical form and twists it entirely. I'd love to see a Galliano show in 3050 (if we cryogenically preserve him or something) -- would he make clothing out of dry ice and foam?

My outfit today is pointy and stylized, the Little Black Dress of the future by Baiastice, worn with a collar by Eyecandy that catches a feeling of ethereal lightness despite the tough metal. My skin by Fallen Gods catches the colors of a chemical spill, staining me in puddles of color that draw the eye in to a melancholy expression. I'm reminded of the phrase "Nero fiddled while Rome burned" -- in the future, perhaps Acha partied while the world ate itself in a chemically-induced spill?

The LBD made me ponder the history of this type of dress. Meant to cover all situations and be dressed up and down and sideways, in the future there's obviously still a place for it. What situations would this dress cover? Perhaps snail-excretion martinis at the Ennui at the End of the Universe Bar late on a Tuesday night? Or perhaps a sunrise mutant hunt across the arid swaps at the poles? Maybe boating through the islands of the Colorado mountains to converse with upset whales? This dress will clearly do it all.
