Sumomo Kawashima, known to mostly everyone as Momo, is a feminine fashion designer rooted in the adorable. She runs her self-named store, momo, which also means ‘Peach’ in Japanese. After hearing about Second Life in a documentary about the history of videogames, she created an account in August, two thousand and seven, and from day one was intensely interested in the fashion world. Her first avatar was a basic raccoon getup that she altered and changed to suit her tastes on her very first day. After that, she wanted to take her own illustrations and use them to customize her avatar. Discovering that it was not as simple as uploading the image wholesale, she was not daunted, and began searching for tutorials and Photoshop patterns to use to bring her work to life.
Her first creations were her famous blue skin makeup and tattoos, which she still wears today. However, following this, she tried to make shirts and was frustrated when she could not get them to look right. This all changed when she rented out a space in the LicoLico Mall. Now having a place to showcase her designs, she redoubled her efforts, making a variety of outfits to sell in order to fill her new space. Through this, she learned all the skill she has today, and which she puts to use to continue to produce a line of clothes. She uses Illustrator, Photoshop and a variety of 3D software for sculptie pieces.
Sumomo Kawashima does not adhere to any single genre or time period when coming up with outfits, instead creating whatever pops into her head. She is heavily influenced by anime, music, movies, books, video games, colors, cute characters and photographs. All of this comes together in her head and she makes what she wants, when she wants, and shares it with the general public. The majority of her outfits are composed of bright colors and adorable pictures, striking a very definitive, and very recognizable, image. Her blog, which she fills with product information and images, can be found here: (http://sumomomo.wordpress.com/)
