Hair Fair 2008

Hair Fair 2008 (for Locks of Love) - Promo Poster

There are almost 90 participants, spreaded across 4 sims. The Hair Fair is sponsored by Rezzable, who have donated the islands for this charity event. Hair Fair donates proceeds to Locks of Love, an organization that donates wigs to children who suffer hair loss due to cancer, burns, and other conditions. This year, all designers at the fair will donate 50% of one hair style to the charity. And of course, you can just donate without getting virtual hair in return on location too.

Bandana Day

With Hair Fair fast approaching so are the events that will take place, one of those events is the Annual Bandana Day. This is held on the last day of Hair Fair , September 7th, an all day event covering the whole grid, where we all replace our hair for the day, wherever we may be , and wear a Bandana sold during Hair Fair at various locations around the 4 sim. All money raised from the sales of the Bandanas will go to Locks of Love.

The children that benefit from this event are bald in real life for a lot longer than a just day, and the money raised by Hair Fair and this event will go towards helping them be provided with wigs in RL, a worthy cause. Compared to what these children experience on daily basis, we consider being virtually bald for just a day - or even a few hours - is not much asked from an avatar, but a giant statement for those kids.

Official Hair Fair Photo Contest

Do you love hair? Show it in the Official Hair Fair 2008 Photo Contest on Flickr! We’re looking for pictures that show the range and fun of hair across the grid. We’ll be picking 2 first prize winners, three second prize winners, and 5 third place winners to display at the Hair Fair throughout the whole event.

We at Hair Fair want to show the love and appreciation for the talented people that make us beautiful hair (both past and present), and in doing so we have created the Hair Fair Photo Contest. This contest is for you to show, in an homage style, a photo or photos that show your favorite hair styles and the way you love to wear them, what makes them your favorites and what it is about the designer and their work that generates that affection. You do not have to show hair that is made only by designers in this year's Hair Fair. It could be past designers that have left Second Life, or designers just starting out, or even hair you or a friend made.

Most important rule: all photos must be entered by Midnight SLT on August 15th.  For more rules and to submit check out the appropriate Flickr group.

Donate your - real! - hair to Locks of Love

Of course, if you are not so emotionally attached to your RL hair - or you are and wish to make a 'grand gesture' you can also help Locks of Love by donating your real hair, in stead of purchasing virtual hair. There are some guidelines they ask you to consider when you wish to do so:

Acceptable Hair Donations:

  1. Hair that is colored or permed is acceptable.(Not bleached)
  2. Hair cut years ago is usable if it has been stored in a ponytail or braid.
  3. Hair that has been bleached (usually this refers to highlighted hair) is not usable. If unsure, ask your stylist. They are not able to accept bleached hair due to a chemical reaction that occurs during the manufacturing process.
  4. Hair that is swept off of the floor is not usable because it is not bundled in a ponytail or braid.
  5. Hair that is shaved off and not in a ponytail or braid is not usable. If shaving your head, first divide hair into multiple ponytails to cut off.
  6. They cannot accept dreadlocks. Their manufacturer is not able to use them in our children’s hairpieces. They also cannot accept wigs, falls, hair extensions or synthetic hair.
  7. Layered hair is acceptable if the longest layer is 10 inches.
  8. Layered hair may be divided into multiple ponytails.
  9. Curly hair may be pulled straight to measure the minimum 10 inches.
  10. 10 inches measured tip to tip is the minimum length needed for a hairpiece.

Please Note:

  1. Shorter hair will be separated from the ponytails and sold to offset the manufacturing costs.
  2. Although the shorter hair cannot be used in the hairpieces, it still greatly helps to reduce costs.
  3. Gray hair will be accepted and sold to offset the manufacturing costs.
  4. Colored hair is not usable if it is colored over bleached hair.

How to donate your hair:
