New controls recently introduced by Facebook will allow users to personalise what stories they would like shown in their news feeds. Product manager for Facebook, Jacob Frantz announced changes in a recent blog post. He states that the Facebook news feed is a stream of stories that are really personalized from friends, contacts and associates that you have connected with on Face book. The overall aim of the news feed is to show stories that matter most to Facebook users. Face book do this by simply ranking stories based on how interesting they are to users. In order to do this effectively, they review connections, interactions and content that you have commented on.
Users can now specify which friends they would like to see posts from in their news feed. This also applies to pages that you would like to see stories from. To personalise the news feeds, you can simply select the peoples profile pictures in the news feed preferences. Posts will then be visible in your news feed from those selected.
This is just another feature introduced by Facebook to give users even more control and improve experience. Jacob Frantz quotes “We’re always working to improve and personalize your News Feed experience. We know that ultimately you’re the only one who truly knows what is most meaningful to you and that is why we want to give you more ways to control what you see’’
How to get started
- Select friends and Pages to see first
- Within News Feed Preferences, tap on a friend’s profile picture to see their posts first
Facebook will also be suggesting new pages that you might like which will be based on your current likes and preferences.
In another feature to be released by Facebook, more control will also be given over what stories will appear on user’s feeds. There will be more control on unfollowing people with the opportunity to also reconnect with users you may have previously unconnected with.
